MOS – Microsoft Office Specialist certification

 

MOS is an IT industry recognised certification created by Microsoft to cover all the programs in its Microsoft Office Suite. Gaining the MOS certification demonstrates that you have the skills needed to get the most out of the chosen Microsoft application.

 

Microsoft Office Specialist Word – Intermediate (MOS 2/3)

Brief Outline

Not only could this session contribute to your training and preparation for the MOS exam for Word 2010, but it can also be a stand-alone Word session teaching you some specialist skills and functions of the program.

In this session you will learn some of the more specialist skills and covering a broad range of functions of Word 2010.

 

Learning Outcomes

  • Adding text to a shape; modifying text on a shape; adding captions; setting shape styles (border, text); adjusting position and size;

  • Using the Insert Table dialogue box; using Draw Table; inserting a Quick Table; converting text to tables; using a table to control page layout;

  • splitting and arranging windows (view side by side, synchronous scrolling);

  • document views (reorganising a document outline, master documents, sub-documents, web layout, draft);

  • Recovering draft versions; deleting all draft versions;

  • Finding templates (locating a template on your disk, finding templates on the web);

  • Using the Navigation Pane (headings, pages, results), Go To, browse by button, and Highlight features; setting Find and Replace options (format, special);

  • setting tabs; using the Tabs dialogue box; setting tabs on the ruler; clearing tabs; setting tab stops; moving tab stops;

  • Sorting content; adding a row to a table; adding a column to a table; splitting, merging, moving, resizing and deleting a row or column; defining the header row; converting tables to text; viewing gridlines;

  • Formatting, saving selection to text box gallery, text box styles, text direction, shadow effects, 3-D effects, arranging options;

  • Adding, removing, exceptions, AutoCorrect dialogue;

  • Hyperlink using text; hyperlink using graphic, headings and bookmarks; creating new document; email address

 

Pre-requisites

If attending this session as part of working toward the MOS certification in Word, it is essential that you have attended the Foundation session in Word, or spoken to Staff Development about your Word skills. If attending this session as a stand-alone session, an understanding of Word and experience of using the application are needed. Please contact Staff Development if you have any questions about suitability or the MOS certification.
