MOS – Microsoft Office Specialist certification

MOS is an IT industry recognised certification created by Microsoft to cover all the programs in its Microsoft Office Suite. Gaining the MOS certification demonstrates that you have the skills needed to get the most out of the chosen Microsoft application.

 

Microsoft Office Specialist in Excel – Intermediate 1 (MOS 2/4)

Brief Outline

Not only could this session contribute to your training and preparation for the MOS exam for Excel 2010, but it can also be a stand-alone Excel session teaching you some specialist skills and functions of the program.

Intermediate 1 & 2 are sessions that are both aimed at the same level and could be done in any order. The difference between the two sessions is purely down to the skills you will learn which means you don’t need to have done one session before doing the other.

Intermediate 1 amongst other skills focuses mostly on the skills for presenting your Excel work professionally, both on-screen and in hard copy.

Learning Outcomes

  • printing an entire workbook; constructing headers and footers; applying printing options (scale, print titles, page setup, print area, gridlines)

  • printing rows to repeat with titles; printing columns to repeat with titles

  • configuring titles to print only on odd or even pages; configuring titles to skip the first worksheet page

  • managing page scaling; configuring page margins; changing header and footer size

  • creating custom views; Page layout

  • Autofill - copying or preserving cell format with AutoFill; selecting from drop-down list

  • Validation and drop-down lists

  • Create charts based on worksheet data (Intermediate)

  • Inserting, viewing, editing and deleting comments

  • demonstrating how to manipulate workbook properties; manipulating workbook files and folders

  • Applying different name and file formats for different uses by using Save and Save As features

Pre-requisites

If attending this session as a stand-alone session, an understanding of Excel and experience of using the application are needed. 

If attending this session to work toward the MOS certification in Excel, it is essential that you have attended the Foundation session in Excel, or spoken to Staff Development about your Excel skills.
