Brief Outline:Short Course in Learning, Teaching and Assessment (Day 1 of 2)

 The Short Course in Learning, Teaching and Assessment is facilitated by the Centre for Learning and Teaching Enhancement (CAPE). It is aimed at those doctoral students who are required or may be asked to teach on Middlesex University programmes of study. Course participants might be new to teaching or have prior experience.

The aim of the course is to help familiarise participants with the practice of teaching in a Higher Education environment. It will provide support for any teaching participants who may be asked to contribute and will highlight different aspects that will be useful, such as:

  • An introduction to literature and theory,
  • Practical tips for leading a variety of session types, and
  • Follow-up resources online to provide support and encourage further exploration of the themes.

 

Over the day and a half learning theories, teaching methods, assessment, session planning, barriers to learning and the role of evaluation in Higher Education will be covered.

Participants have the opportunity to receive a certificate of completion. The requirements to gain are:

  • Course completion,
  • Observing two teaching sessions after attending the course, and
  • Reflecting on these observations, completing the Observation of Teaching form and submitting it to CAPE.

 

N.B. Attendance of Day 1 and 2 of the course is a compulsory requirement
