MOS – Microsoft Office Specialist certification

MOS is an IT industry recognised certification created by Microsoft to cover all the programs in its Microsoft Office Suite. Gaining the MOS certification demonstrates that you have the skills needed to get the most out of the chosen Microsoft application.

Microsoft Office Specialist in Excel – Intermediate 2 (MOS 3/4)

Brief Outline

Not only could this session contribute to your training and preparation for the MOS exam for Excel 2010, but it can also be a stand-alone Excel session teaching you some specialist skills and functions of the program.

Intermediate 1 & 2 are sessions that are both aimed at the same level and could be done in any order. The difference between the two sessions is purely down to the skills you will learn which means you don’t need to have done one session before doing the other.

Intermediate 2 amongst other skills focuses mostly on the skills for importing and analysing data.

Learning Outcomes

  • Paste Special (formulas, values, preview icons, transpose rows and columns, operations, comments, validation, paste as a link)

  • importing data to Excel; importing data from Excel

  • Manipulating the Quick Access toolbar; manipulating the ribbon tabs and groups

  • manipulating Excel default settings

  • modifying hyperlinks; modifying hyperlinked-cell attributes

  • constructing new cell styles

  • Splitting window views; arranging window views; opening a new window with contents from the current worksheet

  • Order of evaluation, precedence using parentheses

  • SmartArt, shapes, screenshots

  • Making corrections to an image (sharpening or softening an image, changing brightness and contrast); using picture colour tools; changing artistic effects on an image

  • Sending a worksheet via email or OneDrive; changing the file type to a different version of Excel; saving as PDF or XPS

  • Defining, applying, removing, searching, filtering lists using AutoFilter

  • Applying conditional formatting to cells

 

Pre-requisites

If attending this session as a stand-alone session, an understanding of Excel and experience of using the application are needed. 

If attending this session to work toward the MOS certification in Excel, it is essential that you have attended the Foundation session in Excel, or spoken to Staff Development
