Middlesex Research Forum
Join us for the Middlesex Research Forum, Tuesday 20th March
1-2pm, Committee Room 3, Town Hall, Hendon.
The purpose of the meeting is to exchange ideas between individual academics in preparation for the next REF.
The next REF will take place in 2021 and already many decisions have been made about the next framework. Panel members for REF 2021 have been already appointed nationally.
Following Lord Stern's report, HEFCE announced some decisions in November 2017 and planned more consultation into the Spring of 2018. Details of these can be found here:-
The key purposes of the REF are:
- to inform the selective allocation of funding for research
- to provide accountability for public investment in research and produce evidence of the benefits of this investment
- to provide benchmarking information and establish reputational yardsticks, for use in the higher education sector and for public information.
What has changed in this REF is the decision to submit all academic staff with "significant responsibility for research" in each Unit of Assessment.
The criteria for staff eligibility is under discussion nationally but where staff are not included a due process has to be followed in each University.
More information can be found on REF 2021's website: http://www.ref.ac.uk/
Including REF 2021's own Town Hall events in January 2018: http://www.ref.ac.uk/events/2018/townhallevents.html
Richard Comley, Director of Research for Middlesex University, has kindly agreed to come and take part in the next Research Forum.
The Middlesex Research Forum is run by Professors Edmund Penning-Rowsell, Katy Deepwell and Carol Costley.
Please register or just come along. It is informal.
You are welcome to bring your lunch as we are not able to provide catering at this event.
