DESCRIPTION

Few of us know what to say when someone tells us that they have been sexually abused.

For most staff, receiving a disclosure from a student, or a colleague, will often raise uncomfortable feelings and anxieties about managing the situation safely.

This training, delivered in an interactive lecture format, will look at some of these feelings, for example - the urge to rescue, worry about getting it wrong, worry about what the discloser might do, how to hold them until they can get to the right help, how to release them, how to manage not knowing what happens to them after what may feel like a very intimate encounter. It will address what may be happening for both parties in the disclosure and suggest thoughts and techniques that the disclosure recipient may find helpful.

The training will be delivered by Linda Lewis of The Survivors Trust, a national organisation representing more than 130 specialist sexual violence support organisations.

Linda has significant experience of working with victims of child sexual abuse , has run services for victims and is an experienced trainer.

Training is available on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st November at the following times (in 2 hour training slots):
