Online Short Course in Learning, Teaching and Assessment 2019-20

This course is a fully online version of the Short Course in Learning, Teaching and Assessment that runs at the Hendon campus at Middlesex University. The course is intended to support doctoral students who are interested in preparing to teach at Middlesex University, and has been designed to accommodate participants either new to teaching or with prior teaching experience.

This version of the course has been developed to meet the needs of learners who are unable to attend the face-to-face version due to factors such as remoteness of location or an inability to devote the concentrated period of time the taught version requires of participants.

Conditions for participation

The course is delivered over a five-week period. A major benefit of studying online is the opportunity for participants to manage their own study time, and the course has been developed to optimise this. You will, however, be expected to attend live, hour-long virtual meeting room sessions on the first, third and fifth weeks of the course. These sessions will occur on the Wednesday of each week and at a time deemed convenient for the majority of participants (agreed at the start of the course).

Participants will all be expected to attend a 30 minute induction session in the online meeting room on the Monday of the first week of the course (instructions to follow upon registration)

Pre requisites of the course

Participants must have:

• Access to a computer and a robust internet connection to enable full participation in live meeting room sessions
• Ability to attend all of the live meeting room sessions occurring on the Wednesdays of the first, third and fifth weeks of the course
• Ability to devote a minimum of two hours to study and learning activities per week for the duration of the course.
